How Accessible is Restaurante Portitxol, Javea for wheelchair users?
Restaurante Portitxol Javea for the wheelchair user. On first seeing the outside of Restaurante Portitxol, disabled access doesn’t spring to mind. At first glance, you could rule out this restaurant and that would be a mistake. The 6 steps at the entrance of the restaurant are not disabled-friendly but a small glance up the side street will afford you the secret entrance to this restaurant. Santa Coqueta Taverna is attached to the Restaurante Portitxol and allows very good disabled access for wheelchair users.
Level Access to Restaurante Portitxol, Javea
Once into the restaurant through the level entrance of the Santa Coqueta Taverna, good wheelchair access continues through this hidden restaurant. There are a variety of seating areas with some fixed seating and other free chairs. For a wheelchair user, the tables are not the best as the pedestals can stop some wheelchair users from getting close enough to the table but my husband managed. The tables are spread out and there is space to move around easily for wheelchair users. Some of the larger wheelchairs may find it a squeeze at busy times.
Parking for Restaurante Portitxol, Javea
Disabled parking near Restaurante Portitxol for wheelchair users is poor. Being located in the old town, there are challenges for wheelchair users but depending upon how adventurous you are, it is possible to get to. My husband is an independent wheelchair user and he managed. But I cannot comment on access for all disabilities and the distance to a parking space is dependent on when you visit and how busy the town is generally. Most locals do not park in disabled access parking bays but there are fewer in the town of Javea.
The nearest disabled parking space is in Avinguda D’Alacant. However, the climb from this space is very steep so if this climb is too great for you then you can park in other bays further away but with less of a climb.
Disabled toilets at Restaurante Portitxol, Javea
For wheelchair users visiting Restaurante Portitxol, the disabled toilets are very good. As per many restaurants in Javea unfortunately the disabled toilet is in the ladies but as there is only one of each, it isn’t a problem. As with every aspect of Restaurante Portitxol, it is spotlessly clean.
Why would you visit Restaurante Portitxol, Javea as a wheelchair user?
Why may you want to visit Restaurante Portitxol? The short answer is, it’s so worth it! This is a hidden gem in a challenging location for wheelchair users but it is a must if you are visiting Javea. It is a truly special space, and the current owners have created this truly magical space in the centre of the town. The food is traditionally Spanish. The day that we visited, they had a menu del dia (3/5 courses) for €14.50. This included two tapas starters before we even ordered our food! They also have an A la Carte menu.
The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and has some quirky features such as a door of doors. It is such a shame that access to the roof terrace is not possible for wheelchair users as I am told that it is beautiful.
In conclusion, visiting Restaurante Portitxol, Javea for the wheelchair user.
I can highly recommend Restaurante Portitxol for those wheelchair users who want a real taste of Spain in a stylish, relaxed restaurant. If you’re adventurous and enjoy going to special, not run of the mill places, then Restaurante Portitxol is definitely for you. It is certainly worth the hill that you need to go up to get there. We will undoubtedly be returning and it may become our new place to go. The pricing is also so competitive s0 please check it out if you visit Javea.
Restaurante Portitxol is located on the corner of Avinguda D’Alacant and Calle Rda. Norte.
