How Accessible is +Que Tapas, Javea?

accessibility review for +que Tapas, Javea

Wheelchair Accessibility Review for +Que Tapas, Javea Costa Blanca

+Que Tapas is a fantastic little tapas restaurant, perfect for coffees, snacks, or enjoying their menu del día. A standout feature is the complimentary mini croissant served with your coffee—a thoughtful touch that.

High-Quality Food and Great Variety

The food at +Que Tapas is truly exceptional. The menu offers a wide variety of high-quality dishes, from classic Spanish tapas to more creative options that cater to different tastes. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick snack, a leisurely coffee, or the excellent menu del día, the flavours are consistently fresh and delicious. The diverse menu ensures something for everyone, making it a great spot for groups or families with different preferences.

Wheelchair Accessibility Highlights

The owners have made commendable efforts to improve accessibility:

  1. Entrance Ramp: A ramp has been installed at the entrance, ensuring easy access for wheelchair users.
  2. Accessible Restroom: The ladies’ restroom has been adapted into a larger, wheelchair-accessible facility. Adding a small disability sign to this toilet would be helpful for clarity, particularly for male wheelchair users like my husband, who sometimes gets odd looks from others when using it.
  3. Table Arrangements: The tables are well-spaced, and some styles are ideal for wheelchair users, allowing easy access and comfort.

Atmosphere

The welcoming atmosphere is one of +Que Tapas’ greatest strengths. The staff are warm and attentive, ensuring all guests feel at ease. Combined with the high-quality food and affordable prices, it’s a place you’ll want to return to again and again.

Accessibility Challenges

The primary issue lies with the location. While the bar itself is on flat ground, parking can be a challenge. If you’re fortunate enough to find a nearby parking spot, accessibility is excellent. However, parking in a neighbouring street means navigating a steep hill to reach the restaurant. This incline can be extremely challenging for wheelchair users without substantial assistance from companions.

Final Thoughts

+Que Tapas is a shining example of a restaurant striving to be inclusive and accessible, and I commend the owners for their efforts. The ramp, accessible restroom, and thoughtful table arrangements showcase their commitment to all customers.

In addition to its accessibility, the high-quality food, extensive menu, and inviting atmosphere make it a standout choice in Javea. If parking logistics could be improved or nearby accessible spaces promoted, it would be nearly perfect for wheelchair users.

Despite the parking challenge, I highly recommend +Que Tapas for its fantastic food, friendly atmosphere, and impressive accessibility features. It’s a gem worth visiting!

How Accessible is Barlovento Tapas Bar, Javea?

Barlovento Accessibility Review Javea

Wheelchair Accessibility Review for Barlovento Tapas Bar. in Javea, Costa Blanca.

Barlovento Tapas Bar is a gem in Javea’s port area, offering an authentic Spanish experience with delicious food, friendly service, and breathtaking views. While the atmosphere and terrace are exceptional, wheelchair accessibility is a mixed bag.

Terrace
The large, open terrace is the standout feature for wheelchair users. Its wide layout and moveable tables make it a welcoming space, allowing for easy manoeuvring and a comfortable dining experience. The open design also enhances the feeling of accessibility, making it ideal for most wheelchair users.

Entrance
The bar has made an effort to create level access with a wide open ramp, which is commendable. However, the tilt of the pavement creates a small, awkward lip at the entrance. This could pose a challenge for some wheelchair users, especially if unaided.

Interior
Inside, the fashionable furniture unfortunately falls short in wheelchair accessibility. The tables with large pedestals are not wheelchair-friendly, limiting the options for indoor seating.

Bathroom
The accessible bathroom is located in the ladies’ restroom, which, while functional, could be better marked to avoid confusion or awkwardness. Adding a wheelchair-accessible sign would make it more inclusive for all users, including men.

Access Routes
Situated on a high terrace, the bar can be reached either by climbing a long hill from the port or from the Fisherman’s Church. While picturesque, these routes may require additional effort for wheelchair users.

Overall Experience
Despite some wheelchair accessibility challenges, the terrace, stunning views, and welcoming atmosphere make Barlovento a worthwhile visit. The staff are friendly and efficient, and the menu delivers an authentic Spanish experience at very reasonable prices. With some minor adjustments, such as improved signage and addressing the lip at the entrance, this could be an even more wheelchair-friendly destination.

A true treasure in a quiet corner of the port, Barlovento is a spot we’ve thoroughly enjoyed and would happily recommend.

How Accessible is Restaurante Portitxol, Javea for Wheelchair Users?

How Accessible is Restaurante Portitxol, Javea for wheelchair users?

Restaurante Portitxol Javea for the wheelchair user. On first seeing the outside of Restaurante Portitxol, disabled access doesn’t spring to mind. At first glance, you could rule out this restaurant and that would be a mistake. The 6 steps at the entrance of the restaurant are not disabled-friendly but a small glance up the side street will afford you the secret entrance to this restaurant. Santa Coqueta Taverna is attached to the Restaurante Portitxol and allows very good disabled access for wheelchair users.

Level Access to Restaurante Portitxol, Javea

Once into the restaurant through the level entrance of the Santa Coqueta Taverna, good wheelchair access continues through this hidden restaurant. There are a variety of seating areas with some fixed seating and other free chairs. For a wheelchair user, the tables are not the best as the pedestals can stop some wheelchair users from getting close enough to the table but my husband managed. The tables are spread out and there is space to move around easily for wheelchair users. Some of the larger wheelchairs may find it a squeeze at busy times.

Parking for Restaurante Portitxol, Javea

Disabled parking near Restaurante Portitxol for wheelchair users is poor. Being located in the old town, there are challenges for wheelchair users but depending upon how adventurous you are, it is possible to get to. My husband is an independent wheelchair user and he managed. But I cannot comment on access for all disabilities and the distance to a parking space is dependent on when you visit and how busy the town is generally. Most locals do not park in disabled access parking bays but there are fewer in the town of Javea.

The nearest disabled parking space is in Avinguda D’Alacant. However, the climb from this space is very steep so if this climb is too great for you then you can park in other bays further away but with less of a climb.

Disabled toilets at Restaurante Portitxol, Javea

For wheelchair users visiting Restaurante Portitxol, the disabled toilets are very good. As per many restaurants in Javea unfortunately the disabled toilet is in the ladies but as there is only one of each, it isn’t a problem. As with every aspect of Restaurante Portitxol, it is spotlessly clean.

Why would you visit Restaurante Portitxol, Javea as a wheelchair user?

Why may you want to visit Restaurante Portitxol?  The short answer is, it’s so worth it! This is a hidden gem in a challenging location for wheelchair users but it is a must if you are visiting Javea. It is a truly special space, and the current owners have created this truly magical space in the centre of the town.  The food is traditionally Spanish. The day that we visited, they had a menu del dia (3/5 courses) for €14.50. This included two tapas starters before we even ordered our food! They also have an A la Carte menu.

The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and has some quirky features such as a door of doors. It is such a shame that access to the roof terrace is not possible for wheelchair users as I am told that it is beautiful.

In conclusion, visiting Restaurante Portitxol, Javea for the wheelchair user.

I can highly recommend Restaurante Portitxol for those wheelchair users who want a real taste of Spain in a stylish, relaxed restaurant. If you’re adventurous and enjoy going to special, not run of the mill places, then Restaurante Portitxol is definitely for you. It is certainly worth the hill that you need to go up to get there. We will undoubtedly be returning and it may become our new place to go. The pricing is also so competitive s0 please check it out if you visit Javea.

Restaurante Portitxol is located on the corner of Avinguda D’Alacant and Calle Rda. Norte.

TASCA PORT RESTAURANT JAVEA – ACCESS FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS

There is really good wheelchair access at Tasca Port Restaurant Javea. There is a terrace outside and a ramped entrance to the seating inside. Due to covid restrictions, the tables are spaced apart creating easy movement for independent wheelchair users. The tables have good access beneath so Rob in his wheelchair can get close to the table. I am not sure if there is perfect accessibility for the larger wheelchairs as it is a small restaurant. On the terrace, there would be no problems for different wheelchairs.

Geographic Restaurant and Bar, Javea. How wheelchair accessible is it?

Geographic front accessible javea

Wheelchair access at Geographic Restaurant and Bar, El Arenal, Javea.

When asking how wheelchair accessible is Geographic Bar and Restaurant Javea, the answer would be positive but mixed. There are several areas of seating areas at Geographic Bar and Restaurant.

Wheelchair Access inside the Geographic Restaurant and Bar

Inside the restaurant itself, it is wheelchair accessible but the tables at the front where the lovely view of the sea is, are packed into this area so you may get a feeling of being penned in. In the current climate of Covid, there is plenty of space between tables.

There is more spacious seating at the rear of the restaurant where the small cafe counter is, selling cakes and other treats. This area also has an open fire in the winter months. A real treat at Christmas time.

Accessible Terrace outside

The terrace outside is between Geographic and the bar next door. This terrace stretches around the back of Geographic as well and is level all the way around.

Disabled parking for Geographic Restaurant, Javea

There are a variety of disabled parking spaces behind the El Arenal Beach area and you will usually find one which is free.

Javea Av Del Med disabled parking space free in height of summer

So what has Geographic got to offer the  disabled traveller?

Being mainly wheelchair accessible and so close to the lovely beach at El Arenal, then it has a lot to offer. We usually sit inside and have a breakfast or dinner.

TV screens show sport

There are MANY television screens at Geographic showing sport, including premiership and international football. It doesn’t have the feel of a sports bar and you can enjoy a meal or drink in peace. However, popular games may attract larger crowds and make it more difficult to move around the bar.

Is Geographic Restaurant  Accessible for wheelchair users?

Geographic is all on one level. The disabled access entrance is at the side of the restaurant. There is an approximately a one inch lip at this entrance which could be challenging for some. A large electric wheelchair, could get around but you may have to ask others to move for you. We tend to towards the rear where it is a little more spacious.

Entrance at the side has a small lip.

Is there a disabled toilet at Geographic Bar and Restaurant, Javea?

The disabled toilet at Geographic is located at the rear of the restaurant, through the left of the two doors and labelled ladies I’m afraid. It is spacious, however.

Would I recommend Geographic to the disabled traveller?

We enjoy going to Geographic. The food and staff are very good and we like the pub feel that geographic has. We highly recommend the English breakfast. It is particularly nice in the cooler months with the open fire and cosy feel.

La Fontana Restaurant and Bar Javea. How wheelchair accessible is it?

doors closed la fontana javea disabled access

When asking how wheelchair accessible La Fontana bar and Restaurant is, the answer has to be yes absolutely.  And to add to this excellent accessibility, the staff are friendly and work hard to create an atmosphere that is always buzzy and fun.

Wheelchair access at La Fontana Restaurant, El Arenal, Javea.

There are several areas of seating at La Fontana. All areas are wheelchair accessible.  The first being the terrace outside which has a mixture of seating tables and barstools around barrels.

The second is inside the restaurant itself. It is wheelchair accessible but the tables are packed into this area so you may get a feeling of being penned in. Sometimes the width for a wheelchair to get through isn’t there and you end up having to ask people to move if you need to toilet or to leave. Personally, Rob would rather not sit where this is the case. In the current climate of Covid, there is plenty of space between tables.

Disabled parking for La Fontana Restaurant, Javea

There is a disabled parking space right outside the restaurant by the side terrace. It seems to be a popular parling space as it leads onto the promenade at El Arenal Beach so we have not always been successful in attaining this space. There are a variety of disabled parking spaces behind the El Arenal Beach area and you will usually find one which is free.

So what has La Fontana got to Offer?

Being fully wheelchair accessible and so close to the lovely beach at El Arenal, then it has a lot to offer. We usually sit on the side terrace which provides easy access to the disabled toilet.

Unusual drinks at La Fontana Restaurant and Bar.

If you are a spirit drinker then La Fontana is for you. They have many unusual spirits and also sell them in their on-site shop. They also sell lovely condiments and other specialist food items. Great for an unusual holiday gift!

So how wheelchair accessible is La Fontana Bar and Restaurant, Javea?

La Fontana is fully accessible for wheelchairs throughout. It is all on one level and entrances are flat. There would be space for an electric wheelchair.

Is there a disabled access toilet at La Fontana?

The disabled toilet at La Fontana Restaurant Javea is unique in that you will find it in the Gents toilet area. No, you don’t have to wheel passed men at urinals but the doorway is next to the gents’ toilet.  The doorway to the disabled toilet is not huge but Rob fitted through easily in his manual wheelchair.

Would I recommend La Fontana to the disabled traveller?

In Conclusion, we love going to La Fontana Restaurant Javea.  The staff and great, the drinks are flowing and food is excellent. The thin crispy pizzas are a must or any of the tapas as well. Go around the side terrace, you will see the bar there and be able to see the variety of spirits on offer. I believe that the bar manager would accommodate any drink request. A real favourite of ours and the locals alike.

The La Fontana Restaurant and bar is located at the end of the promenade at El Arenal Beach area, Javea.
